Rockford Men's Basketball Season Preview

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team heads into the 2019-20 season with new head coach Jeremy Reigle taking over. The Regents look to build off of last year by making the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament in back-to-back years. Rockford has added a lot of depth and skill to the roster this year with 18 incoming players and 10 returners. The mix of returners and newcomers should add a healthy balance to the team.

  • Last season Rockford finished with an overall record of 12-14, while finishing 11-9 in conference.
  • The Regents received their first bid to the NACC Tournament since 2013. Unfortunately, Rockford lost to Illinois Tech in the first round.
  • Rockford's 2018-19 season was highlighted by two victories (112-103, 108-102 OT) over the conference champion, Aurora University.

  • This year's squad will have a plethora of new faces as 18 members are new and 10 are returning. Key returners for the Regents include: Brandon Emerick and Kivontay Shaw
  • Brandon Emerick will return to the court after starting and playing in all 26 games last season. He led the team with 3.6 assists per game and averaged a team leading 1.7 steals per game. Tied for first with 32.8 minutes per game and was second in scoring with 12.5 points per game.
  • Kivontay Shaw returns in a Regent uniform after playing in 26 games last season and starting 24 of them. Last year he was second on the team in assists with 2.1 per game. Adds consistency at the line, going 80.4% last season and recorded two double doubles on the season.
  • Rockford also has an abundance of skilled incoming talent, highlighted by Vincent Eugene, Jahleel Stevens, Jamar Rivera, Nathaniel Shead, and Ashton Singleton
  • Vincent Eugene played under Coach Reigle last season and is looking to make an immediate impact for the Regents.
  • Jahleel Stevens also played for Coach Reigle last season and will be a key addition for Rockford.
  • Jamar Rivera, Nathaniel Shead, and Ashton Singleton are all transfers that will be suiting up in a Regents uniform for the first time. They all possess the experience and skills needed to make an immediate impact on the court.

"We have a tough and unselfish group that will go out and compete with anyone," Coach Reigle stated. "What we lack in size, we will make up for in effort and determination. We look forward to getting on the court for the first game."

The Rockford University men's basketball team opens up its season at home on Friday, November 8 against Carroll University. The game has a scheduled start time for 7:00 PM inside the Seaver Center.
