Regents and Muskies Battle to a 1-1 Tie After Double Overtime

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The men's soccer team opened up the Northern Athletics Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday when they squared off against the Lakeland College Muskies. The Regents were looking to get rid of the bitter taste of last year's game and avenge the heartbreaking 3-2 loss in overtime. The Regents have not defeated the Muskies since they joined the Northern Athletics Conference in 2006.

Saturday's turned out to be yet another thrilling matchup between the Regents and the Muskies. Neither team was able to get much going in the first half as both teams struggled to get shots on goal. Rockford recorded just one shot on goal in the half with the Muskies getting just three.

The second half saw a little more action as both teams found the back of the net. Lakeland broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute to take a 1-0. The Muskies continued to pepper shots at the Regents senior goaltender Mick Goulding (Midlothian, Ill./Brenen). Goulding made a total of a total of 10 saves in the match with 6 of those coming in the second half. Just as it appeared as the Regents would fall short in yet another close matchup, sophomore Neil Moallem (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) came up with a huge play for Rockford. Moallem scored his first goal as a Regent at just the right time tying the match with only 4 minutes left in regulation sending it into overtime. Neither team was able to find many scoring opportunities in overtime with Rockford and Lakeland each getting just one shot on goal. The match went through a pair of scoreless 10 minute overtime periods causing the match to end in a 1-1 tie. It is the first time the Regents men's soccer team has recorded a tie in a NAC match since October 10th, 2010 when they tied Concordia University Chicago 0-0.

The men's soccer team will travel to Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday, September 18th to take on the Falcons. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
