Golf Competes at Benedictine Invite, Rich Breaks 80 to Finish Tied for 10th
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - The men's golf team wrapped up its one day tournament competing in the Benedictine University Men's Fall Invite. The one day competition was held at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club located in West Chicago, Ill. It is a par 71 course that that is 6,920 yards in length and contains a fair amount of trouble. There is water located on holes 1, 5, 13 and 18 and bunkers on at least one side of the green on 13 of the 18 holes.
With one week of collegiate competition under their belts, it was a week of great improvement for Rockford's golf team. Once again it was Kaleb Rich (Washington, Iowa/Washington) who stole the show on Sunday. In a field of 102 golfers, Rich shot a 77 and finished tied for 10th place. It is the first top 10 finish of his career and his second top 20 finish in as many tournaments. The sophomore shot a well balanced round on Sunday firing a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine. Of the 8 NAC schools at the Invite, Rich's 77 was just one shot behind the best round of any NAC golfer to record a score for his team. Sophomore Scott Suchy (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) broke 90 in just his second collegiate tournament as well. Suchy shot a 42 on the front nine and a 43 on the back to post a round of 85. His round was good enough to tie him for 69th out of 102 golfers.
The men's golf team will be back in action for two-day tournament next Sunday and Monday, September 23rd and 24th at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational. The Regents will tee off at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday and 8:30 a.m. on Monday at Washington County Golf Club in Hartford, Wis.
